Some of me today!

SCARY: yahoo.com

These Scary Beautiful shoes are made by Leanie van der Vyver, photo by Lyall Coburn (yahoo.com). They were nominated for a design prize at Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Jury members Barbara Visser, visual artist and Xander Karskens, and curator of De Hallen had this to say about the shoes: "The object created by Leanie expands the concept of a shoe into multiple new meanings. The beautifully made leather object is accompanied by a video registration of a girl wearing it. One observes the design forcing the wearer to develop a new way of walking, leaning forward while refining a painfully fragile balance. The jury applauds the way aesthetics, ergonomics and prosthesis merge into an awkward choreography. The craftsmanship and strong conceptual way of designing also show in another work, a ceramic tea set in which reference is made to a building in South Africa. Leanie succeeds in translating political consciousness into form and is considered by the jury to be a meaningful future designer."

The Mason Pearson Brush

A few different people have told me to buy the Mason Pearson brush. I never spend a lot of money on my brushes, but maybe it is worth it.. or so it seems after reading more about it.. I'm very curious about the brand. Apparently, hair stylists and beauty magazines alike tout Mason Pearson as the "holy grail" of hair brushes. The English brand is over a 100 years old, and is still handmade by a specialist whose work must meet strict quality control guidelines. Mason Pearson brushes are known for their nylon and boar bristles that are supposed to do an amazing job of evenly distributing the oils and sebum from the scalp, resulting in shiny and stronger hair. Every part of the brush seems to serve a grand purpose, as even the unique rubber-cushion pad is meant to stimulate circulation and to allow for every bristle to hit the scalp. However, the prices average is $170 for one brush and can go up to $290! Is the brush worth the cost? Review after review.. I'm convinced. It is worth the money: You need volume, you got it. You have a tangle issue, this is your answer. The brush also distributes the oils in your hair nicely so that you can go another day without over washing your tresses. AND the brush seems to last forever!

Elle France December 2012

This picture is from Elle France December 2012. One of my Christmas gifts was a red knitted sweater just like this one! I can't wait for the weather to be a bit colder one day so I can wear it. In December, the temperature has been jumping up and down here in Qatar. One day it is pretty cold.. 15 degrees or so and the next day it is 27 and sunny!

Chunky

Add a chunky necklace to your outfit for some extra funk-factor - this is the necklace I'm wearing today.

CLASSICS

Some of us can't afford to buy purses left and right - especially not designer's purses. If you want ONE purse but you are not sure which one to pick, go for a classic! Invest in a quality designer handbag. These five will withstand the passing of trends and continue to look amazing for years to come. DO NOT buy one just becasue of status - pick one that you really really love. Fashinista picked these five classics: 1. Vanessa Bruno Chain Handle Bag: It is a great, unfussy, and reasonably priced option. It’s a great piece by a relatively new designer and is not instantly recognizable. 2. Mulberry Neely: It’s super lady-like, but functional. The red color is great, but it also comes in nude and steel. 3. Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton Top Handle: It’s so classic and timeless and the quality is impeccable. The no-nonsense shape and color of the one pictured here is a favorite, but there is also a black suede version. 4. Proenza Schouler PS1: Some might say it’s too early to call this a classic, but others disagree. There is nothing overly trendy about it other than its frequent appearance on the arms of celebrities. It’s classic shape and unfussy design definitely gives it staying power. 5. Chanel Quilted Flap Bag: This bag is the ultimate classic handbag. No one can argue its timelessness. It’s been replicated to death, but nothing stands up to the original. It’s impossible not to look chic carrying one of these. (fashionista.com)
Leather pants! I have been wanting a pair for some time now, but it has been impossible to find the perfect fit. Some of them are too tight, too low, too big in certain areas etc. It has been numerous funny and frustrating visits to the fitting room! I love the idea of the baggy leatherpants like these from pixie market. They look great the way the model is wearing them but they would also look good with the etallic rose printed sweater or the gray sweater! I never (almost never) wear skirts here b/c of the culture but I wouldn't mind clicking home the old metallic foil pleated skirt! Playful and casual at the same time. Shoes and more shoes. These are really not "my style" but there is something about them... The black patent oxford shor with pony hair, leopard front, and silver buckle strap would work with black jeans.... Pixie market is worth a visit.

Jungle Color Basics

Net-a-porter is a huge inspiration - even though the clothes etc are expensive (most of them), I love looking through the website and the lookbook to find ideas for potential new outfits. It is all about mixing and matching and finding your personal style - that is fashion!

MAKE ME UP

Oh! How I wish I could do my eyes like this! Beautiful. More practice. More make up. More parties to go to. I will be there. One day.

On My Mind Right Now

I found a rustic dresser at the One yesterday – I absolutely love it. It has that old feel to it, but the drawers are much easier to open – perfect! Also, I saw this wallpaper and it caught my eyes because it was different and interesting – the letters. As I walked closer, I saw that it was written in Swedish. Old Swedish. Would be pretty nice to have one small wall with this wallpaper, or perhaps maybe frame one piece of it and have it as art on the wall. Mr. Big and Carrie! Pointers! Enough said.
